Two students were selected to represent the Faculty of Law at the All Africa Human Rights Moot Court Competition. Their names are: Nikita Karsan and Khwezilomso Godana.

The team scored as follows:

Memorials: 76.75%

Oral Rounds:  72.84%

 

Overall, the team ranked 7th place for their Memorials. The issues were centred around Human Rights as provided for in the African Charter and other relevant human rights instruments.

Students had to submit written and oral arguments on issues such as: states’ obligations, if any, to investigate the disappearance of journalists who report on governance; refugee/ asylum seekers human rights; rights of children in times of civil unrest; and the protection of LGBTI human rights.
